CIRCUS ANTHOLOGY: PIERROT THE MOON 13 in height

CIRCUS ANTHOLOGY: PIERROT THE MOON 13 in height

A small anthology of the characters that have nourished popular theatres and fairs and that have marked the collective imagination of road shows. Ancestors of the modern circus, here are five figures selected for the qualities still present today in the circus.

Pierrot the Moon : A comic character of the Italian fair and then of pantomimes. A lunar and pathetic dreamer dressed in white. Draped in a manner evocative of the Moon’s misty fluidity, he is more entity than character. A notorious lover, he represents the opening, the dream part of the circus. An eternal sleepwalker, he is lost in a suit that is too roomy. Nearly monochrome and going through life with the entire bedding over him, he is a dream in itself. Melancholic, he sings the nostalgia of living awake to the sound of a mandolin held in his hand.

White patina, silver nitrate and other materials. Skin treated with iron nitrate and enhanced with white patina. Burgundy mandolin. Black patina hairband and shoes.
